Ten Commandments, One Interesting Guy

The Ten Commandments are on tonight, the Old Testament God at his best. When I was in Utah I met the chief artist and designer for the film, Arnold Friberg. I always looked forward to his visits, not only is he the only Academy Award nominee I've ever met, but also because he is an open, warm, interesting person with a wealth of experience to share. Often we were sitting through a lengthy delay (my company produced his lithographs), and he would regale me with stories of the filming of this movie, of "Chuck" Heston, Cecil B. DeMille's genius and occasionally tame gossip of 50's Hollywood.

Our workplace would always become a temporary museum when we were printing his works, we always had the original on hand (the man paints BIG canvases, by the way), and friends and family would traipse through all day to see "The Parting Of The Red Sea", "George Washington Crossing The Delaware", etc. Everyone walked away awed by the sheer majesty of his works. I am not a fan of this genre, but I enjoy seeing an artist have a positive effect on his patrons and viewers, and his success couldn't have happened to a nicer man.
