Athens Time Change Riots Tonight

Flagpole reviews Guided By Voices greatest hits album and recent box set, as well as previewing their show tonight at the 40 Watt with Brian Jonestown Massacre:

Combine all this with the stories - the many, many stories - of the band's ability to and proclivity for consuming mass quantities of beer at any given time (especially during and immediately prior to performances) and you've got the makings of a new cult. Which is appropriate, really, when you consider how gung-ho many Guided by Voices fans are about their lo-fi superheroes. Claim that the band's quality is sporadic and shows sloppy, and you'll be assaulted by shouts as to the benefit of writing approximately 8.4 songs per minute, as said fan scrambles to assemble a mixtape for evidence.
