Happy Birthday, Mrs. John Murphy (And Sister)
Today should be a national holiday, celebrating the birth of Kim and Kelley Deal. Kim's album with the Amps, Pacer, is simply my favorite record of all time, and her work with the Breeders and the Pixies has always amazed me.
Kelley's bands have been interesting as well, and sadly under appreciated. The Kelley Deal 6000 put out two uneven but fun albums, Boom! Boom! Boom! and Go To the Sugar Altar, both full of quirky pop goodness. Her project with Sebastian Bach, Last of the Hard Men, never saw an official release, but fragments are widely available through filesharing networks.
