Ummm... this makes me feel so good and yet so bad. I'm all for bands reuniting for the revenue and nostalgic tour, but I lost faith in the band after their last two albums, things can only be worse many years later.
Posted by david on September 10, 2003I had the honor of working backstage when the Pixies played UAB in the late '80's. I ended up hanging out with Kim for about an hour she was the sweetest thang. We talked nonn-stop until they had to leave. Frank was a an asshole but that was expected.
Posted by: DaneBramage on September 10, 2003 01:44 PMKim is a great person, I knew her when I was in grad school in Boston in the mid to late 80's, and still hear from her occasionally. Even then, she was one of the most interesting and dynamic musicians I ever met, and I looked forward to her work outside the Pixies. Chuck (Frank) was amazingly bright, but the more popular the band became, the more "difficult" he became as well.
Posted by: david on September 10, 2003 01:51 PMIf Duran Duran is making ANOTHER comeback....anyone can do it....
Posted by: chad on September 10, 2003 02:04 PMWhy do people always bash those last two Pixies records? It's some of their only tolerable stuff, and it's also very adventurous. But then again, I think most of Black's solo stuff blows the Pixies away, and Kim's presence was always a sore spot with me.
Posted by: Max on September 10, 2003 02:38 PMI totally agree. Many of my favorite Pixies songs are drawn from the final two records. I'm even willing to go against conventional wisdom and say my least favorite is actually Surfer Rosa.
Posted by: Paul on September 10, 2003 08:54 PMI too think that Surfur Rosa is the one my least fav Pixies releases, and Trompe le Monde is actually tied with Doolittle in my mind. I like Frank's solo stuff, but i wouldn't say it blows it away. Teenager of the Year rocked, but the rest of his stuff is good to very good.
Just my $0.02.
Posted by: Bryan on September 11, 2003 08:55 PMAll of the Pixies albums are absolutely incredible. I spit at you, Bossanova/Trompe Le Monde haters.
Posted by: Kyle on September 11, 2003 08:59 PMI've enjoyed all the Frank Black albums more than the last two Pixies releases. Maybe the point I got into the band is to blame, the "Come On Pilgrim" effect.
Posted by: david on September 11, 2003 10:03 PMall the pixies releases r the best in their own individual way in their own idividual genre. they creat something completely origonal with every release. its just all fun to listen to
