If you're in the Birmingham area tonight, be sure to catch Bright Eyes at Zydeco. If you see a guy in glasses and a University of Georgia sweatshirt, stop by and say hello, I'll buy you a beer.
Here's a preview, a Conor Oberst solo show.
Posted by david on January 09, 2004Damn sold out show!!!!
Posted by: John on January 9, 2004 08:31 AMCheck Charlemagne Records (today, there may be cancellations: (205) 322-5349
I wish the newspapers would blurb about these shows (note: My Morning Jacket next Friday), but the News's music writer is a clueless hack.
Posted by: david on January 9, 2004 09:10 AMI knew about the MMJ show, but did know about the Bright Eyes until I saw it on the sign outside Zydeco last week - with the "sold out" sign underneath.
I guess the flip side is that it is nice that Birmingham can sell out a show for someone other than Garth Brooks or Leonard Skynard.
Posted by: John on January 9, 2004 11:21 AMOddly enough, Birmingham didn't sell out shows like Tom Petty and R.E.M. Granted, they were in a big amphitheatre, but Bright Eyes' showing is a positive note.
Posted by: M@ on January 9, 2004 11:43 AMI've been impressed with the number of decent shows in Birmingham recently. Zydeco, Workplay Theater and the Nick have all had us in the city for music worth hearing lately.
Posted by: david on January 9, 2004 12:20 PMThe best all-in-one resource I've seen is Black and White (online at bwcitypaper.com). They usually have a pretty good calendar of events, although they didn't tell me about this Bright Eyes show early enough...
Enjoy the show.
Posted by: John on January 9, 2004 02:01 PMWow, you already know what you are wearing tonight! :)
Posted by: sugarmama on January 9, 2004 03:10 PMMiss Sugarmama, I'm a low maintenance guy. I'll wear the same thing I was wearing when I typed the post, I'm not changing for a show.
Posted by: david on January 9, 2004 03:53 PMI was wondering if you happened to bootleg the show--I'm stuck at the University of Wyoming, with Denver, CO as my closest show source. And, of course, neither the Conor, Jim, and M. show nor the Rilo Kiley acoustic tours are coming that close.
If you have the bootleg, I'd love to exchange something for it or something. I can only imagine what Bright Eyes with M. Ward was like. Email me.
Posted by: Colin Moon on January 11, 2004 05:57 AMDitto about that bootleg. I have three BE shows i'd be willing to trade out should someone post or make available anything from this solo tour.
Posted by: eve on January 12, 2004 10:40 AMI saw BE last night M. Ward was unbelieveable
I wish icould find a boot of that show nothing but guitars and one piano
I never had an urge to acquire bootlegs in this degree until seeing the phenomal bright eyes/j. james/m. ward. show last night. Please let me know as well if anyone out there has one of these shows.
