Fiery Madvillain

Two albums that amazed me yesterday on my first listen: Madvillain's Madvillainy and the Fiery Furnace's Blueberry Boat. Madvillainy is filled with MF Doom's incredibly descriptive but smooth lyrics and Madlib's obscure and odd (but always impressive) sample-filled production. The Fiery Furnaces' sophomore effort, Blueberry Boat, manages to be even more bluesy than their debut, fleshing out the tracks, making more use of synthesizers and overall a major step forward. Track this one down now that it has leaked.

You should see the video for "ALL CAPS". It's pretty sweet.

That Madvillain record is a supreme disappointment in my eyes and ears...I knew it would be hard to top Viktor Vaughn - which is one of the best hip hop records I have heard in a few years - but this just sounds lazy and sloppy and not it a good way and lyrically its pretty weak...granted I have only given it a few spins but so far it doesnt look good my friend...on the other hand the Fiery Furnaces record is pretty damn good as well as the new Hayden record Elk Lake Serenade..he actually sounds a little upbeat on this one..its definetly worth checkin out...

I can't imagine any other album this year being better than the Fiery Furnaces' Blueberry Boat. I've had a promo of it for a few months, and I think it takes at least that long listening to it to fully appreciate it's brilliance.

I think "bluesy" might be the only hue they *didn't* amp up for B. Boat. I don't hear you, Largehearted Boy, nor do I understand the grammar in your blog's subtitle. But carry on.

I finally got an advance copy of Blueberry Boat (planning to interview eleanor soon for a local publication just outside of NYC) Anyway it is utterly brilliant . Forrays into bluesy guitar riffs, melodic piano and crazy synthesizers make for epic dazzling listening a must for all music afficianados!
By the Way
Its officially released July 13
