3 + 3 + 3

The year is still young, but that can't stop me from my first "best of" recap.

My three favorite 2004 albums:

Blueberry Boat by the Fiery Furnaces
Milk Man by Deerhoof
We Shall All Be Healed by the Mountain Goats

My three favorite songs of 2004:

"Dance Music" [mp3] by the Mountain Goats
"Dead Dogs Two" [mp3 sample] by cLOUDDEAD
"Giga Dance" [mp3] by Deerhoof

Three pre-2004 albums I'm sorry I missed, but am enjoying this year:

Gallowsbird's Bark by the Fiery Furnaces
Stars at Noon by Sea Ray
The 3-Dimensional In-Popcycle Dream by The Pillbugs

What are your favorites?

Any idea where I can get my hands on some free Fiery Furnaces or any of the other bands?

Posted by: on May 19, 2004 08:18 AM

TTIKTD has some Fiery Furnaces for your sampling pleasure: http://teachingtheindiekidstodanceagain.blogspot.com/2004/05/i-lost-my-dog-but-now-hes-found.html

No 2004 releases have floored me as of yet, but I'm waiting anxiously for the new Wilco, Luna, Old 97s, Rachel Goswell, Ted Leo, Sparklehorse, American Music Club...

But from the candidates so far, I'll say:

The New Year - The End Is Near
Nellie McKay - Get Away From Me

hell, that's it, really. a lot of decent releases but nothing life-changing yet.

Haven't picked up too many 2004 releases yet this year but I'd have to go with...

Loretta Lynn/Van Lear Rose
Modest Mouse/Good News...
Ben Kweller/On My Way

When is the Fiery Furnaces record actually coming out? Can't find that info anywhere. I saw them in Brooklyn back at the end of March and they blew me away (my first experience with them).
