right on. i've thought it to be a rather slow 1st half of the year in terms of exceptional music thus far. nothing's really come out of left field and blown me away, but the usual suspects have put up some good efforts. i'm with you on the mountain goats, of montreal, electrelane and moonbabies records. i'm looking forward to getting the fiery furnaces latest when it comes out and i'm still absorbing the new wilco.

seek out paperbag records' artists controller.controller's and Uncut's debut CD's because both are getting alot of rotation in my CD player. Both bands are from the Toronto, Ontario, Canada area.

Hm. Wilco? Ugly, man.

My top albums, in no real order:

The Reputation - To Force a Fate
Nellie McKay - Get Away From Me
Franz Ferdinand - s/t
Of Montreal - Satanic Panic...
Melissa Auf der Maur - s/t
Modest Mouse - Good News...
Gomez - Split the Difference
Ambulance Ltd - LP
McLusky - The Difference Between...

And that's just what I can remember. I feel like it's really been a banner year musically thus far.

Good list but Of Montreal just doesn't do it for me. I jsut can't get past that voice.

Hm. Melissa Auf der Maur? Ugly, man.

Great list but I just can't get into the singer's voice in Of Montreal.

I would have put the new Magnetic Fields album in there, too.

this has been the year of underwhelming releases for me... i've been underimpressed so far by- wilco, magnetic fields, morrissey, of montreal, destroyer ("this night" set the bar too high, otherwise i'd be very happy with the new one), kings of convenience, hollAnd, migala, pedro the lion... all not up to snuff in comparison to the rest of the artists' oeuvre...

what has done it for me:
the thermals - fuckin' a
bearsuit - cat spectacular
califone - heron king blues
electrelane - the power out
sons & daughters - love the cup
lambchop - aw c'mon & no you c'mon

When I made this list up this morning (off the top of my head), I totally left out two deserving discs that have been mentioned by The Thermals and Bearsuit. The Bearsuit record, in particular, made me search out as much of their back catalog that I could find.

which one do you think i'd like the nest?

I do love me some Magentic Fields, I'm a moron for forgetting it.

I'll admit, Auf der Maur needs a lyrics coach, but it's been a shockingly pleasant surprise for me.

Others I missed:

Laura Veirs - Carbon Glacier
The Stands - All Years Leaving
Ash - Meltdown
Elf Power - Walking With the Beggar Boys
