Unleashed! The Large Hearted Boy (Tuesday Tune)

With the last Guided By Voices studio album out this month, I decided to pay homage to the band with a track near and dear to my heart. "Unleashed! The Large Hearted Boy" (mp3 link) is not only the namesake for this blog, but also for my domain (which I am undoubtedly master of). First appearing on the band's 1992 Propeller release, I have been in love with it since the first time I heard it. A short, powerpop gem, the song brims with vitality.

This version is taken from the 1994 bootleg Crying Your Knife Away, taped on June 18, 1994 in Columbus Ohio, enjoy.

A blog theme song! Cool! Maybe you could put a permanent link to your site so we can click on it and play while reading your blog....?

Propeller is the album that made me finally become a fan. It was alien lanes era oddly enough, but Propeller just rocked me. Exit Flagger was the first song to stick. Alien lanes tied with Bee Thousand are my two fave albums (among standard releases).

When I saw a blog with Largehearted Boy, I said- that guy is cool. Great song, great band, great blog.

Cheers.

I've always wondered if that song had something to do with Venus in Furs, the novel by Sacher-Masoch. Some of it doesn't make sense that way, but the "shoe is on the other foot" line and the "driven to the fields, whipped like a slave" part could be read as referring to specific episodes in the book (though admittedly, it's been a long time since I read it). Anyway, it's a great song, and I've always been partial to it, too. It's such a tight little package of goodness.
