Tomorrow's Shopping Bag

Some great music is being released tomorrow, but I'll be content with the new releases by Dizzee Rascal, The Arcade Fire, Augie March and Tegan & Sara. Please, try and talk me into (or out of) buying these or other discs. Have I missed anything on my watch list?

Old Christmas specials are most interesting among the dvd releases, so I'll pass up buying anything new for the telly this week and concentrate on the music.

have no clue how great it'll be or not... it's kinda just dropping outta the blue, but the new Japancakes will without a doubt be interesting at the least. probably great.

I may have missed it last week, but you should really check out the new release from Trashcan Sinatras-"Weightlifting"-if you haven't been listening to them, they're from Scotland and have been around since about '89. They've been struggling without a label for awhile, but finally got out their first album since '96.

Check out trashcansinatras.com and go to downloads-they have an ecard where you can listen to 4 songs from the album. It's very good stuff-they're an amazing band.

I urge you to check out a band called The Features, who release their full-length debut tomorrow. They're from Tennessee, and have put out some 7" singles and an EP over the last couple of years. After seeing them play live a few times, and being blown away quite frankly, I wasn't shocked to hear they'd been signed to a major label. Incredibly catchy, energetic, intelligent indie pop that is already out and drawing raves in the UK music magazines. Given what I know of your taste, I think you'll like them a lot. Website is thefeatures.com, and I think they have two videos from the new record up there.

You know that 7th Heaven DVD is essential.

You've got the Arcade Fire, Augie March, and Diz angles covered, but how could you miss the new album from The Thrills?

I have two tracks up today. Check 'em out. Pop majesty they are.

Absolutely buy the new Giant Sand disc!

Howe Gelb is making some of the most inventive music today. Not everyone's cup of tea - but I think you'll dig.

And they're on tour this fall! Two gigs in the NYC area - hallelujah!

the new Silkworm is pretty damn good - its definitely worth checkin out. and although everyone's all hot and heavy on the Arcade Fire disc I am really unimpressed thus far.

Avoid the new Faint album at all costs. It stinks like 50 year old eggs.

Word on the street is that the new Saturday Looks Good to Me is a phenom, though. CD and LP tracklistings differ.

Oh, also! The Bloc Party compilation ep comes out tomorrow on Dim Mak.

I love Christmas music, old, new, remixed, etc. Thanks for posting this list.

What chiarams said! Howe Gelb is a genius and his new album (or actually the new Giant Sand) album is great! Although I prefer his 'Band Of Blacky Ranchette' sound, this kind of music makes me feel really good.

Also the new Frog Eyes album got my attention. The absolutelykosher.com site seems like a nice place to spend some money ;)

Augie March seems like a nice album too with a beautiful cover, finally released outside Australia!

i'll offer a contrasting opinion on the new faint album, i think it's their best yet.

You could always listen to the Faint album at

to form your own opinion.

Frog Eyes.....definitely will be great from what I've heard so far.

Oh, that Sally Timms is a must-buy. It's great and she got help from the likes of Eitzel, Adams and Langford. I also second (or third?) the Giant Sand disc. Good stuff.

I second the Silkworm recommendation, this is one of the year's best albums.
