I just have to chime in on the subject of places to eat near Zilker Park in Austin--that list was terrible. The only two places on it that I would recommend too are Chuy's (get the burrito) and Romeo's (manicotti). Both are walking distance from the park and have good food, but be forewarned that they will be totally mobbed.

Other places I would recommend:

Taco X-Press (2529 S Lamar): One of the top 3 places to get breakfast tacos in Austin. I would recommend migas tacos and an agua fresca.

Mr. Natural (2414 S Lamar): Vegetarian/vegan Mexican food, cafeteria style or made to order, famous baked goods, and the best horchata around.

Casa de Luz (1701 Toomey Rd): Go here for the vegan macrobiotic brunch buffet. Even omnivores like it, if they're a little adventurous, and it would probably be just the thing after your first day or two of drinking in the sun.

Sandy's (603 Barton Springs): This one's a little further than Chuy's et al on Barton Springs. It's a great, homey local fixture that has great ice cream, shakes, etc., and really cheap decent hamburgers.

A tip if you're looking for more stuff on the web: always trust restaurant information from the Chronicle over anything you get from the American-Statesman/360.

i'm not sure it's as much that the tour isn't generating enough money (i'm pretty sure it is) but bob is wise enough to realize that interest is at an all-time high right now and will probably go down after this... he's just maximizing his profits!

as for cake being overlooked or whatever- up until 1999-2000, i would have agreed. their first three albums are fabulous... the new one and the one from a couple years ago are rather dull and ininteresting though... *especially* the new one...

On the subject of Austin restaurants, I would also like to recommend Mars. It's downtown on San Antonio. Great fusion cuisine. I recommend the Thai Bouillabaisse.

Thanks, Susan & Troy, we'll try a couple of those this weekend.

Ned, actually most (if not all) of the GBV shows have been soldout, I just made a weak joke. I agree, Pollard is striking at the height of GBV collectibility, and I would do the same thing. As for Cake, I've never been a huge fan, but find them listenable.

Bob's not the only one selling off the goods. Tobin has some items up on eBay as well. Such as this:

I'd guess Robert Pollard and Tobin Sprout are just doing some run-of-the-mill housecleaning. Either that, or they're getting ready to get on with the next phases of their lives.

That's a pretty bland guess, though, isn't it?
