Smog - "Jesus" (Tuesday Tune In Memory Of John Peel)

In honor of John Peel, here is a cut from Smog's 2001 Peel session, "Jesus," (mp3 link) a Velvet Underground cover that reflects my mood this morning.

John Peel will be missed, he was a true champion for good music and changed the world for the better in his own way. My sympathies go to his wife and children.

Indeed. I remember catchin' Joy Division's first Peel Session on half a day delay way back when I couldn't even put on pants properly. I was instantly hooked to the voice and the show. Dude was always ahead of everyone else and had the uncanny ability to scope out true talent. He'll be missed

I just can't imagine music here in the UK without John. He has inspired me since I can first remember listening ot hte radio. He made me want to find new music and not be brainwashed into believing that the only music was in the official charts. Where will we be without him? I'll miss you John

Amen to that. Bowie's Peel sessions are some of my favorite records. He was a class act, wish there were more DJs like him.

Absolutley. A sound guy just trying to expand everyones tastes to sounds other than chart music. I didn't think everything he played was great but he introduced the UK to some great bands like The Smiths, The Undertones and more recently The White Stripes. I really don't think they'll be another like him in my life time.

Though I couldn't follow properly his career before broadband internet, I tried to catch every little bit of musical wisdom from John Peel. I'm proud to say my musical taste fits a little bit in his, of course in a very small fraction... A Festive Fifty in reverence. R.I.P. John.
