Comments Awake

Readers can once again leave largehearted comments. My hosting company chkmodded my comment scripts after an infestation of comment spam slowed my shared hosting server. Thankfully, once I realized what had happened, a quick trouble ticket resolved the issue.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today is US Thanksgiving, and I have much to be thankful for. Beyond a good wife, family, and friends, I am grateful for the community that has built around this site. Thanks to everyone for everything from music recommendations to helping my wife find me birthday presents. Your feedback and interaction make LHB a true labor of love.

Since this long four-day weekend will be filled with friends and family, the daily "shorties" and "bittorrent brunch" will return Monday. I'll still be posting the "daily downloads" first thing every morning, but the rest of my days will be filled with the occasional alcoholic beverage, laughs, too much food, and the revelry of friends and family. Did I mention football ? The American, British, Italian and Brazilian leagues will all make this holiday weekend even more enjoyable.

Birthday Thanks

Thanks to everyone who sent birthday wishes. My birthday Monday was filled with friends, family, calories and thoughtful (and often surprising) gifts.

A big thank you goes out to everyone who gave my wife gift suggestions. For my birthday, she gave me the collected poems of Raymond Carver (Marc's suggestion), so he will be receiving a largehearted parcel by post soon. My wife sends her thanks, too, and may use a suggestion or two from that post for my Christmas presents.

A Birthday Song (For Me)

If you see someone singing this song with a smile on his face today, it's probably me:

"Jest's Birthday" by Kimya Dawson from Knock-Knock Who?

it's your birthday drink your pee take off your shirt day
captain noodle saves the day day
silly little chicken headed super hero laff loud manchild
doesn't need a push today gets to make a wish today
shaneena neeneena nay it's your birthday

twenty five and eleventeen and sometimes people are really mean
they'll stab you in the back and they'll punch you in the eye
they'll spit in your coffee and then laff when you cry
but me i would never purposely hurt you
i might give you a wet willie and a noogie or two
you are my brother from another mother
even when we argue we still love each other

it's your birthday drink your pee take off your shirt day
captain noodle saves the day day
silly little chicken headed super hero laff loud manchild
doesn't need a push today gets to make a wish today
shaneena neeneena nay it's your birthday

eleventeen and twenty five is a super duper long time to be alive
but you and me we've had our fun
think of all the wacky crazy messed up things we've done
like mp2k rock and rollin trying to be nice
singin dancin pissin pants avoiding pubic lice
remember the time we saw kenny g he wanted to hump you
that's what he told me

it's your birthday drink your pee take off your shirt day
captain noodle saves the day day
silly little chicken headed super hero laff loud manchild
doesn't need a push today gets to make a wish today
shaneena neeneena nay shaneena nee nee no nee no baby
shaneena nee nee no nay!
it's your birthday

The cash registers will be singing with new release sales this week. The Beatles box setand greatest hits collections from both Pearl Jam and Neil Young will be the perfect holiday gift for many music lovers. This week, armed with birthday gift cards and gift certificates, I'll be picking up The Dears' Protest ep, Oneida's Nice Splittin Peaches ep, MF Doom's MM... Food and Rufus Wainwright's Want Two. If I can find Cinerama's Up & Go, I'll add it to my bag as well.

The Kids in the Hall second season is out on dvd this week, and that's a must-purchase for me. The first season of Andy Griffith will make a perfect gift for my wife. For the musicians: D.I.Y. Or Die: How to Survive as an Independent Artist offers interviews with Ian MacKaye, J Mascis and others.

Is there anything I have missed? Anything else a must-listen?
