Laughter Improves Health

Laughter as a tool for improving help is gaining wider acclaim, according to the Navy Medical Center publication. Not only does it diffuse tension and stress, but Norman Cousins says it's like "internal jogging."

During a hearty laugh, there is a slight rise in heart rate and blood pressure.

Thereafter, there is immediate recoil: muscles relax and blood pressure sinks below pre-laugh levels and the brain may release pain-relieving hormones.

A good laugh may also be good for the heart.
