Love Helps
Being in love is actually good for you according to the Houston Star Telegram article. Why? Because falling in love and having a fulfilling relationship increases chemicals in the brain such as serotonin, a stress reducing chemical. It is the same chemical released in the brain after a massage.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, a chemical that carries a variety of signals among parts of the brain. It works with other neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, another feel-good chemical, to generate feelings that can be emotional.
Over the centuries this has helped fulfill longings for safety, friendship, procreative opportunities, food, resources and peace, says Helen Fisher, an anthropologist at Rutgers University.
