More On Visceral Manipulation
My second installment in this week's discussion of visceral manipulation is about the working concepts behind the technique.
Organs have an inherent motility or rocking movement that speaks to the health of the organ. Reduced motility indicates that the organ is not functioning optimally. Oftentimes, motility is inhibited because organs, which are meant to slide against one another during movement, are adhered together and move as a unit.
Visceral manipulation helps restore the inherent movement of the organ and frees organs from one another so that they may can slide around each other freely. After a session, people report a sense of openness or lightness in the area worked. Improvements in movement and function should continue for two to three weeks after a treatment as the body integrates the change.
