Chiropractic And Massage Go Hand In Hand
I've got lots of clients who swear by chiropractic treatments. I believe massage after a treatment can enhance the efficacy of chiropractics by helping the muscles to relax and more effectively hold the bones in their new positioning. Sometimes, clients' muscles are so tight that their chiropractor has a hard time adjusting them--so I suggest those folk get their massage before their adjustment.
Treatment focuses mainly on the spine and associated joints, but also muscles, ligaments and tendons.
Treatment is tailored to suit the age, build, pain levels and general health of the individual. However, chiropractic isn't suitable for everybody.
You may also have an X-ray of the affected area. If X-rays are not needed, treatment can begin at once, otherwise it will start a day or two later.
Other techniques include variations on the high velocity thrust, modalities (manipulation of joints) that use the body's neuro-muscular reflexes, massage and stretching techniques for muscles and ligaments.
Sometimes I have clients who have been long-time consumers of chiropractics come to me for massage for the first time. Many claim that the massage helps them just as much, if not more than, their chiropractic treatment. However, I never suggest that clients give up their chiropractics because that is out of the my scope of practice--the decision is up to the client.
