It Pays To Be Versatile

I worked a short day today because of my class, but I still felt I got a lot accomplished. My clients had a variety of conditions that called upon almost all of my modalities.

First was a regular client who opted for an hour and a half session because they had a coupon for a free hour (the result of a bonus incentive: get 10 sessions get your eleventh free). With a stressful job resulting in tight shoulders, the first half of the session was devoted to massaging the kinks out of those shoulders. The second half, I used craniosacral therapy to address the subtler results of stress, and I discovered tension housed in the chest and diaphragm which was likely affecting the shoulder tension.

Second was a relatively new client who has ongoing low back problems. Deep tissue therapy was needed here. Many people associate deep tissue with invasive work that requires pain for gain. With patience and a sensitivity to rate at which the muscles will yield to pressure, deep tissue can be deeply relaxing and leaves little soreness the next day. Combined with low back exercises, this client's low back pain should be manageable.

And finally, upon the recommendation of an iridology specialist, the mother of a friend came to get lymph drainage therapy. Congestion of the lymphatic pathways on the right side of the head and neck resulted in muscle stiffness and a feeling as though the client had strained a muscle. A half hour session which included a liver flush, the client reported feeling much less sore and more energized.
