Light Therapy For Neuropathy
A new invention that uses near infrared light emitted by diodes is being used to help alleviate arthritis, bursitis, and other pains associated with edema, inflammations, post-operative healing and chronic wounds.
But it seems to be having its greatest effect on patients with peripheral neuropathy – the debilitating pain and numbness nerve damage that is often a long-term complication of diabetes and other chronic diseases.
During a session, pads are applied directly to the skin and the light energy emitted by the diodes in the pad helps stimulate the release of a chemical in the blood called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide helps the blood vessels to dilate, which in turn increases blood flow and helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to wounded areas.
Several studies have been published in peer-review journals on Anodyne’s use in reducing pain and restoring protective sensation. But it is still relatively unknown, even to some doctors.
No side effects have been reported, but pregnant women and those with an active malignant tumor cannot undergo infrared therapy.
I wonder if it would work for shingles?
