Relaxation Is In The Details
I'm trying a new cleaning agent on my sheets. It claims to have natural enzymes from Europe used to cut the oils trapped in my sheets. Do European enzymes work better than American enzymes? It seems that Americans have a fascination with all that is European. Do European massage therapists seek out American products to clean their sheets?
Funny thing is, the other day when I put the first freshly cleaned sheet on my table, it actually looked as though the oil stain was worse! Upon closer examination, I realized that my sheets were whiter in areas where there was not such a heavy build up of oil. My next plan of attack is to pretreat the heavier stains and see if the European enzymes will do the trick.
I already pretreat my sheets with a citrus-based degreaser and dish soap (formulated to cut grease) for heavy traffic areas. Washing my sheets the same day they are used is an absolute must for preventing the oils from going rancid. I use a detergent with baking soda to prevent odors from developing. I protect the sheets from prolonged exposure to heat (don't put them in the car during the summer and go shopping--this cooks the oil into the sheets). Bleach, of course, is required by law.
Why do I go to all this trouble my linens? It boils down ethics. Creating a sanitary environment for my clients is just one of the little details that make my treatment room a safe place for them to relax. So, they don't have to go to Europe to relax on clean sheets.
