Lymph Drainage Helps Post Surgical Effects
My husband found a question on Ask MetaFilter inquiring about post-surgical bruising and what could be done to speed the often startling appearance (without terrorizing youthful relatives).
Lymph drainage therapy is wonderful for speeding post-surgical recovery. It helps to reduce swelling by moving the excess lymph out of the tissues and therefore reducing pain. Bruising, or blood in the interstitial tissue, will be metabolized naturally out of the tissues, but lymph drainage will speed the mobilization of the red blood cells out of the tissue.
My experience with drugs and anesthesia has been that lymph drainage will speed drug delivery into and out the body. A client came in for lymph drainage to help speed recovery and prevent swelling. Since their session was an out-patient procedure, they came to me shortly after the surgery. As a result, they became groggy and nauseous during the session. The anesthesia had not entirely metabolized out of their system was reintroduced to the blood stream. I was able to help with lymph drainage by facilitating the drug out of their body and ease their discomfort.
