For Expectant Mothers
There is a new treatment option for pelvic discomfort and back pain, a common side effect of late-term pregnancy. Treated in the past with a support belt, pelvic pain can now be treated with acupuncture.
The researchers said acupuncture and stabilizing exercises are effective complements to standard treatment for pelvic pain during pregnancy.
Seeking Breast Cancer Patients In UK Study
A study led by Royal Marsden Hospital and The Institute of Cancer Research is looking for 63 volunteers to test hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) to help reduce lymphedema swelling caused by breast cancer treatments.
Breathing pure oxygen in a decompression chamber could help women who have been left with lymphoedema - a painful and irreversible condition characterised by a severely swollen arm following radiotherapy.
Skin Cancer
Scientists have found a protein commonly hijacked by squamous cell carcinoma called collagen VII that explains how the cancer spreads to remote parts of the body.
The finding is the first to explain how squamous cell carcinoma, the second-leading form of skin cancer, ups the biological ante as it metastasizes, creating new lesions distant from the original cancer.
And while we're on the subject of skin cancers, another article warns of the risks of sun bed use.
The World Health Organization cautions that people using tanning beds or sun beds can fall prey to Malignant melanoma. Malignant melanoma is the most dangerous and deadly form of skin cancer.
