What Is Neuroma?
A client presented today with neuroma, a painful area their doctor described as a pinched nerve between the second and third metatarsal bones, in both of their feet.
Since I have successfully treated other nerve entrapment problems in the hips and ankles of other clients, I thought I'd give this problem a try. But first I need to gain some background on what a neuroma is exactly.
With good communication, and the intention of stretching the fascial structures around the impinged nerve, I set to work. I warned the client that the work would probably be uncomfortable. They tolerated the pressure well. I had better success with achieving a stretch or the beginnings of a release in the underlying tissue if I approached the deep work using craniosacral regional tissue release. This required suppport of and slight compression to the top of the foot.
The client reported feeling some relief in the the feet. I'll be interest in hearing how long their relief lasts, if at all.
