When In Doubt, Ask Your Therapist

Most people who get a massage for the first time have questions about procedure and etiquette. Here are a few commonly asked questions with answers from several massage therpaists.

The number one question: Are you supposed to take off your underwear?

"It really comes down to comfort level, because they (clients) are never really exposed; they're always covered," said Patty Becker of Salon Concepts in Mendota Heights, Minn.

Are you supposed to talk during your massage?

"I have clients who talk to me and some who don't, and as a therapist I read what they want to do" said Buckman.

How much should you tip?

"If you feel you got a treat and something good was done, $5 to $15, depending on how long you had the massage and how much it costs," Buckman said.
