Pregnancy Massage
My husband's sister is pregnant and came to me for a massage yesterday. She has been going to a chiropractor for hip pain.
Her pain was located right in the middle of the gluteal muscle of the right hip, an indicator for the sciatic nerve. I worked to soften the piriformis muscle at it's attachments.
She also had an area of inflamed muscle at the medial attachment of the gluteal muscle at the lower sacrum. It was very painful. She said she didn't know she was sore there until I pressed on it (I get that a lot). I worked the attachment site gently until the inflammation subsided. I suggested that she ice the area if she had to sit for long periods of time, such as traveling in a car. I also advised stretching. Exercises after the baby is born may also help relieve any residual pain left in this area.
