Help For Traumatized Soldiers

A survey published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that one out of eight soldiers who fought in Iraq had post-traumatic stress disorder.

A special-forces soldier who faced a court-martial for cowardice (an offense punishable by execution) after witnessing the body of a dismembered civilian and suffering anxiety and vomiting, has launched a free mental health service for Fort Carson, Colorado soldiers.

Operation Just One will match Iraq veterans seeking confidential help with one of about 50 volunteers including psychologists, counselors, social workers, acupuncturists and a massage therapist.

Kate Altieri, a Colorado Springs social worker and Just One volunteer, said the program will help former soldiers who were kicked out of the Army for behavior caused by trauma in Iraq.
