Last Week's Special

Last week was another one of those weeks where I saw a trend in the types of cases that came across my table. It was leg week. Some of the cases follow:

1. One client has pain in the quadracep of the thigh. The pain crosses hip joint and creates tension in the colon, spleen and pancreas.

2. Pain in the foot and ankle of another client created a compensation pattern where the opposite leg had developed tension in the iliotibial band which resulted in low back pain.

3. It is not uncommon to discover that low back pain is connected to tight hamstrings. Following the tension pattern down the leg, the soleus turned out to be tight and tender. And while this was true for at least two clients, one had cramping associated with the tension. Compression on the cramping muscle relaxed not only the leg and the hip but shoulder, as well!

4. Knees always present unique challenges because of the tendonous attachments from above and below. Pain to the inner knee can run up the adductors into the groin or follow the sartorius muscle up the the ASIS.

5. Tension in the deep hip rotators can affect bladder function, specifically obturator internus. Tensions pulling on the bladder can inhibit the ability to empty the bladder fully thereby creating an environment for infection. Knee pain can also indicate dysfunction in the bladder, and, with the correct training, should be checked whenever knee pain is present.
