ADHD And Allergies
One of my clients is a big advocate of holistic and homeopathic medicine. We were having a conversation about ADHD and my client expressed dismay about the use of conventional treatments. They claim that ADHD is caused by common household and food allergens and should be treated as such.
Not knowing much about this, I decided to see if I could find some information about the treatment of allergies as a cause for ADHD.
Food chemicals such as artificial flavors; artificial colors; artificial sweeteners; and preservatives are often the biggest offenders. Other common problematic chemical allergies include most laundry detergents, fabric softeners and laundry chemicals.
In addition, foods that are particularly hot, stagnating or phlegm-producing should be avoided. This includes dairy products; wheat; hot, spicy food; peanuts; most commercial fruit juices; and especially processed starchy foods such as bread and pasta.
Interesting. Has anyone tried treating ADHD by eliminating such allergens? Has this worked? I'd be interested to hear more.
