Belly Dancing Good Exercise
Belly dancing has it's roots in women's health. Originally created in the Middle East and North Africa for the purpose of preparing women to give birth, belly dancing is a celebration of life and womanhood.
"It's very much a dance that was created by women for women," said Rayne. "It's based on fertility rituals and men were not even in the picture unless there was a marriage dance."
At a time in our society when the word belly is not a compliment, belly dancing is a way for women to change their attitude toward their bodies.
Rayne said that she has found that not only did she become more accepting of herself through belly dancing, but she also accepts others without judgment. She said she has great empathy for women who are unhappy with their bodies, or who think they are either too fat or too skinny to try belly dance, although she feels sad to hear women criticizing their appearance, something she too used to do.
Belly dancing is great workout with the stomach and hip movements, so prepare to sweat.
Rayne, who is a massage therapist and Reiki practitioner by trade, holds belly dancing classes in her home. Students can expect a great workout from belly dancing, as well as a sense of creativity and fulfillment that comes with practising it.
