Massage Found A Home In Rehab Clinics

Sunee Conklin, a massage therapist in Grandview, WA, started out working at two rehabilitation offices with physical therapists. Despite some skepticism, from mostly patients, demand for her services skyrocketed after just two or three months.

Nobody else in the Lower Valley was doing rehab massage, and the local physical therapists didn't think they needed a full-time massage therapist.

Three years after she pioneered the practice in the Lower Valley "now everybody has a massage therapist in their clinic," she said.

She's done so well, she decided to open a massage school teaching basic Swedish so that student can pass the state board exam.

If the demand for massage therapy keeps increasing as it has in recent years, there should be opportunities for them after graduation, Conklin said. Massage has become a regular recommendation from doctors as part of patients' physical therapy regimens.
