Finding a Massage Therapist That's A Good Fit
Beyond the massage finder services, how do you find a massage therapist that is a good fit for the style of massage you prefer? Good communication is key to getting the massage you want.
One of the easiest ways to locate a therapist is to ask around. Check with a local gym and ask for a recommendation. Talk with practitioners in related therapies, like chiropractors or acupuncturists, and find out who they go to for a massage. Be specific about what you want. If you are looking for light Swedish massage but don't make your preference known, you might be sent to a therapist who provides primarily deep-tissue work.
You might tell your therapist, "I have had a stressful week and I want to relax." Or, "I have pain or a knot; I want to ease the discomfort." Or, "I like a deep massage. I want to zone out."
Even if the therapist you choose begins to use a technique different than what you wanted, in most cases the therapist can adjust pressure according to your tolerance. Do not be afraid to speak up if the pressure applied is too weak or too strong for your liking.
