My Continuing Education Experience: Day 4
Today, I will recount the fourth day of the Visceral Manipulation class I took last week.
We finished off with ovaries yesterday and reviewed the techniques we had covered. We still needed the techniques for the ovarian suspensory ligaments that hook into the low back at L1 and L2.
Next we learned techniques for the fallopian tubes that could greatly impact fertility. The isthmus of the ovarian tubes is an area at the entrance of the uterus that narrows to only a millimeter or two and is a common sight where things can't get through.
Of course, the other side of the fertility equation comes from the men, so the prostate becomes and important site for work as well. We learned anatomy, function of the male reproductive and elimination system, motility, palpation through the bladder and techniques.
With a class of almost 40 people and only seven of them being men, we had many hands wanting a body to work on. They handled this by allowing the women palpation and one technique of the entire protocol. The men, of course, could call it quits any time they felt overworked. For the last technique in this unit women could work on each other.
The last organ for our attention was the rectum. Again, anatomy, function, palpation and techniques were covered. Honestly, by this point in the class my brain had reached critical mass and my absorption of the material was minimal at best. I will have to pore over the class manual and my Netter's to comprehend what they were attempting to teach us.
They finished the class by including some discussion of advanced concepts covered in subsequent classes such as Manual Thermal Diagnosis, the Pelvic Plexus, and Lesion Chains.
