I Turned Away A Client . . .

. . . this week for ethical reasons. You see they called seeking information about manual lymph drainage. It turns out they've had cancer treatment with chemotherapy and are experiencing lymphedema swelling in their throat. I'm simply not qualified with my level of training to work on someone with lymphedema.

I was a bit worried when they described their symptoms and it's location. The fluid puffiness that they had been experiencing has gotten to the point that the skin is now tight and hard. That means that damage to the tissue may already be happening. I suggested they not wait and get treatment right away.

I suggested they call their doctor's office and get a prescription for lymph drainage so that services would be covered by their insurance. I also referred them to a certified lymphedema specialist that is in our area. They are trained to treat this unique population of cancer survivors.
