What Is TMEP?

A new client indicates that they have TMEP on their intake form. Of course, this begs the question "what is TMEP?" Why, it is telangiectasia macularis eruptiva perstans, of course. Don't feel bad if you don't recognize this skin disorder, my client's dermatologist didn't recognize it either.

TMEP is defined as a rare form of mastocytosis, which is localized to the skin, although systemic involvement has been reported. Mastocytosis is a disorder characterized by mast cell proliferation and accumulation within various organs, most commonly the skin.

As far as I could tell, my client's TMEP looked like a cluster of freckles. There was no pain associated with the condition and they did not have a problem with me massaging over the area. As far as I can tell, TMEP is not contraindicated for massage.
