Renewing My AMTA Membership
The end of October usually heralds in one of the largest bills that I have to pay for my business. Liability insurance is required to practice massage legally in my state and the easiest way to get it is through a professional association.
I happen to be a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), but therapists can also get liability insurance through the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) for cheaper than through standard insurance companies. I also have a bare bones policy to insure my office should a fire burn down the building. Two years of coverage cost me about $50 more than my annual association membership.
Of course, there are more reasons to be affiliated with a professional association. Websites for both AMTA and ABMP outline their benefits and coverage.
