The Fallout From A Fall
It's interesting to talk with a client who has tripped and taken a fall. No matter how they land, a massage therapist with skilled palpation skills and a knowledge of anatomy trains can trace where the energy of the impact traveled in the body.
Such is the case with a client who feel off a curb and landed on their hands and knees. The brunt of the force was in the left hand and knee. The strain pattern traveled up their arm into the neck, shoulder, and rib cage. The impact to the left knee traveled up the adductor muscles of the left leg and into the left psoas muscle. Releasing these tension areas lessens the impact of the energy as it travels through tissues in the body in an attempt to disperse.
I once heard a story about a woman whose car had been broad-sided in an auto mobile accident. She walked away seemingly unscathed except for a few aches and pains. What she didn't know was that the kinetic energy of the crash had been absorbed by her body. Four weeks later, her spleen burst, theoretically as a result of her body processing and moving the absorbed impact of the crash to the weakest point in her body where it consequently broke down.
