Inner Knee Pain
You know you're getting older when your laundry list of physical complaints starts to grow. I have this goofy knot that has showed up on the inside of my knee. Sometimes at night it stabs and travels up the inner thigh to my groin. Lately, it has started to send an occasional echo down the inside of my calf.
Upon palpation, it feels like a hard knot, hard like bone. I've tried to massage the area, but is painful to do so. This past weekend, after traveling in a car for two hours, I got out to walk and felt very stiff. It was painful to climb stairs, but the more I walked the more my discomfort improved.
What brought this on? I have a couple of theories. First, it is an area where I feel pulling occasionally. I've attributed the problem to my shoes wearing out in the past. Or, I need to be stretching my adductor muscles more. It's simply another symptom or contributor to my low back pain since it is occurring on the same side. Second, I demonstrated a massage to a classroom of students last week. I kneeled on the floor, something I don't usually do during my work day. This can be a common risk factor for bursitis, especially for people who work in a kneeling position such as carpet layers, gardeners and plumbers
If this is bursitis then I have several things I can do to help clear it up. With proper home care, this should go away in a week or so. I already know what I need to do to prevent it from coming back, so I will need to adjust my exercises straighten any misalignment in my knee. I use the Pete Egoscu's book The Egoscue Method of Health Through Motion: Revolutionary Program That Lets You Rediscover the Body's Power to Rejuvenate It. I'll keep you posted and let you know how it goes.
