Headache Might Be Neck Pain
Cervicogenic pain is headache pain that originates in the neck. It could be cause by pinched nerves, degenerative disc disease, injury, poor posture or misalignment and diagnosed as arthritis or fibromyalgia. According to an article in the Chicago Daily Herald, Dr. Seymour Diamond, founder of the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago, said structural problems in the vertebrae can damage nerves that lead from the neck up into the scalp.
"Once you get this headache pain, it all feels the same," Hurley said. "An ax in your head feels like an ax in your head, whoever stuck it there."
Surgical intervention relieves pain for 80% of patients. Of course, it is helpful to pinpoint the problem first. If you are getting treatment with physical therapy, heat, and massage, and your relief is only temporary, you may need to consider surgical intervention. The care of a good doctor is critical and if you are ever considering surgery, get a second opinion.
