My Rationale For The School I Chose

When I decided to attend massage school, I did my homework and looked for the best massage school with a strong emphasis in anatomy. I chose Utah College of Massage Therapy (UCMT) for six reasons:
1) Anatomy with cadaver laboratory
2) Financial Aid was available
3) They were one of six schools throughout the country (at the time) that were accredited through COMTA (Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation)
4) Craniosacral Therapy was part of their core curriculum
5) They offered an extended clinical program beyond certification
6) They offered classes in Yoga and Thai Chi outside of class time

UCMT was privately owned, then, and had an excellent reputation. Most of the classes and instructors were very good. Not only that, the school, located in Salt Lake City, was in a city that was considered safe and relatively inexpensive. The school was growing and expanding rapidly into new territory, and eventually opened campuses in Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado.

I imagine that the school is still a good one, despite being sold to a commercial company whose interest is creating therapists for the spa and cruise boat industry. If they kept the foundation of the courses in line with the originator's vision, then they are still cranking out good, well-trained therapists. I, for one, have not heard from the school again since they've been sold. But, then, I've been out of school for a while and I don't know that they keep track of their graduates past their first couple of years out of school.

If you've recently graduated from the UCMT family of schools, I'd love to hear from you and find out what you thought about the quality of your education.
