Skip The Stones, See GBV
Glorious Noise, the online music zine, recommends its readers skip the summer Rolling Stones tour in favor of Guided By Voices.
I heartily agree, having seen both bands live. Of course, I am also a little biased, having seen the Stones once and GBV 43 times. I was lucky to see Mick and the boys in on their 1981 tour in one of their few small-venue dates when I was in college. The band was tight, but Jagger seemed to be mailing in the performance, and I left with a bad taste in my mouth.
GBV, on the other hand, goes full-out every performance, with around 50 songs and playing upwards of three hours. But don't take my word for it, read the article, as well as other GBV concert reviews.
