4th of July Weekend

Our long weekend has been filled with baseball, food, gardening, bicycling and recovering from aforementioned diversions.

Our 4th was spent at my mom's, devouring potato salad, burgers and tomato sandwiches (all the barbeque places were closed when we went looking for traditional holiday food), catching up on family news and relaxing.

We went to the Huntsville Stars game Friday night for the Mark McGwire bobblehead giveaway (and, no, we're not selling ours... yet). It's been a couple of years since I've seen a minor league game, and I'd forgotten how hot Alabama summer nights are. It was our first baseball game together, though, so it was special, even though my bride missed two innings waiting on line for water and peanuts. Seeing the kids around us in the cheap seats by the left field line brought back many memories of taking my glove to games as a boy and waiting for a foul ball and heckling the opposing team.

This morning we finally took our bikes down and cycled... the wind in our faces, the cramps in our legs... it was really a lot of fun. We're looking forward to a picnic by the river this afternoon, trying to make the most of our holiday.
