January 1, 2005
When I started the 52 Books 52 Weeks project last January, I envisioned my leisure time greatly changing. My free evenings would be spent with a book in my hand, a beer at my side, and without the usual distractions of television or the internet. What I found is that I didn't read more than usual. If anything, I read less books last year by pacing myself.
Even though I probably read fewer books, I found the project immensely rewarding. I was exposed to new genres and authors, mostly through reader recommendations, and enjoyed almost every book I read. All this being said, the project will continue in 2005.
The biggest change in 52 Books 52 Weeks is the addition of a sponsor (a first for this blog). Atomic Books, one of America's most eclectic independent bookstores (and one of my personal favorites). Atomic Books has offered to supply my reading needs this year, and (of course), I graciously accepted. Any store that accepts John Waters' fan mail is automatically a largehearted favorite. Stop by their site to read their blog, check upcoming in-store events, join their mailing lists, read their columns, browse their FAQ, or just thank them for being a friend of LHB.
Tune in tomorrow as the 2005 edition of 52 Books, 52 Weeks kicks off. As always, I am open to any and all suggestions for reading material.
