I finished Chuck Palahniuk's novel, Haunted, this week. The story of desperate people escaping to a writing camp has tempted me for weeks. I have been a fan of everything Palahniuk has written, but this one let me down a bit. Every character tells a story explaining why they chose to escape the world, and these stories are the best part of the book. The intervening plot, however, is predictable, though well-filled with physical and psychological horror that Palahniuk is known for. Still, I enjoyed the book, and at times (especially reading the characters' stories) was startled. If you love Palahniuk, give this book a chance.
My next book is Ayun Halliday's Job Hopper.
