Late last year a friend of mine sent me a copy of Emma La Reina's Dopamine & Sunshine EP, and I was especially impressed by Alina Simone's haunting vocals. This morning I listened to Simone's solo EP, Prettier in the Dark, and the stripped down arrangements (guitar, cello, drum) set her aching voice off perfectly. Now I'm debating a North Carolina trip next month to catch her at The Troika Music Festival, where she is playing one night with the Mountain Goats, The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers and The Wigg Report. Road trip, anyone?
