If you read just one zombie novel this year, make it Monster Island. I remember the buzz when author David Wellington serialized his zombie novel, Monster Island, online. E-books are no fun for me, so I decided to wait for the book in hard copy. The wait was worthwhile, Wellington's tale is fast-paced and action-packed. The post-apocalyptic story covers survivors of an epidemic that has turned much of the world's population into zombies and the rest into warring factions. As a Somali warlord's group heads to Manhattan to retrieve AIDS drugs for their leader, the action is non-stop man vs. zombie.
If you enjoyed this book, serialized versions of its sequels, Monster Nation and Monster Planet are available online, as are iPod versions of the first two books in the series. A serialized version of Wellington's latest novel, 13 Bullets, is also available.
My next book is Kate T. Williamson's A Year In Japan.
