"I'm a child of the '60s and '70s," she told The Post. And she has a lot of love for U2's "Beautiful Day" - an upbeat, uplifting single Clinton blares over the speakers moments before she hits the stage to deliver a red-meat stump speech.
Not only did he have a vast vocal range, but Nilsson seemed to generate indelible melodies instinctively, and he exuded an irresistible mood -- epitomized by the iconic photo of him in his bathrobe on the cover of his biggest album, Nilsson Schmilsson -- a gentle kind of detatched irony that seemed entirely free of cynicism.
As the conversation shifted, Merritt explained how Showtunes, though only 26 tracks long, was just as large-scale of an endeavor as 69 Love Song.
"It is a compilation of three cast albums, and it took, actually, a lot more work than 69 Love Songs. I didn't work on it night and day, but I worked on it a whole lot in three and a half years, and it cost five times as much and involved a lot of travel and a huge amount of work. So although in length it's not as long as 69 Love Songs, for me, it's just as epic a project."

"We realised people couldn't avoid the sonic similarities of the first two records," says bassist and Casablancas' childhood pal Nikolai Fraiture. "We told ourselves that if the third album sounded like the first two it would give people the right to say: 'I told you so, they're a one trick pony.' We needed to make a third album that would open up the possibility of an actual musical career."
"I've always thought about death and what it all means," says Engelberg, 48, author of Cancer Made Me a Shallower Person: A Memoir in Comics, one of three new cancer-themed comic books coming out this year. "It comforts me to make humor out of it."
DRE: I read that you produced this record at home.
Black: Yeah, I have a little tape machine and a Pro Tools rig and between the two of them I made it happen. The big goal was to reflect the intimacy of recording at home. It helps you to capture something. I don’t do a lot of trickery either, it is just good mikes.
