Ryu Murakami (no relation to Haruki or Takashi) is a master of the psychosexual thriller, and In the Miso Soup is a classic example of his craft. The story of a Japanese sex tour guide and his odd American client takes ultraviolent and often unsettling turns as it barrels to its satisfying conclusion.
My next book is Alison Bechdel's Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic.
