27 Down, 25 To Go (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Osamu Tezuka is a Japanese comic legend, having created Astro Boy, Princess Knight, and many other manga classics. Given his stature and talent, it is no surprise he would take on an eight volume series examining the life of Buddha. Buddha Volume 1: Kapilavastu tells the story of the Buddha's birth in the classic big-eyed manga vein, with slapstick humor and surprising tenderness. Despite its 400 pages, the book never felt weighty, I read it in one evening. Now I can't to read the other seven instalments.

My next book is The Collected Stories of Amy Hempel.
