29 Down, 23 To Go (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Jay Weinstein's The Ethical Gourmet is the rare book that not only captured my attention from the first paragraph, it made an immediate impact on my life. Books about ethics often preach, but Weinstein instead chooses to enlighten about making smart food choices. After all, the book is subtitled, "How To Enjoy Great Food That Is Humanely Raised, Sustainable, Nonendangered, And That Replenishes The Earth."

Weinstein, an environmentalist and chef, educates the reader not only with breakdowns of ethical choices for grains, vegetables, meat, and fish, but also furnishes recipes that illustrate his points. My wife and I are both avid foodies and socially conscious, and we enjoyed this book tremendously.

My next book is JPod by Douglas Coupland.
