I am afraid I have fallen out of love with Douglas Coupland. Ten years ago, I eagerly awaited every novel, but since then, we have been drifting apart. After reading JPod, we are definitely just friends now. Though I enjoyed the book, and devoured it in a couple of hours, I wondered what I was left with after I shut its cover. Like a good thriller or romance novel, the book moved quickly with a dose of humor, but the cubicle-dwelling characters were a bit too one-dimensional, and Coupland's insistence on putting himself in the novel just didn't work for me (he's no Bret Easton Ellis). My next book is McSweeney's Quarterly Concern Volume 19.
